July 22

Well it was pretty scary last night because I was having some really bad pressure in my chest near my diaphragm and in my back, shallow breathing, and I couldn't stand up straight. They took me to the ER and there I was diagnosed with Pericarditis which is an inflammation of the lining around my heart. This causes the lining around my heart to rub against my heart. When they listened to my heart they said it sounded like sandpaper rubbing against itself. One of the men on my trip is an ER doctor and he came to make sure everything was ok- the doctor let him listen to my heart and he said that is was really rare to hear that and that that was only the third time he had heard that happen. It was really scary though when they thought I had PE- a Pulmonary embolism which is a blood clot. Since I had traveled on a plane that day, there was more of a chance for me to have that because blood can clot in your legs when they aren't moved enough- like in a plane. Then the clot can move up into your lungs. They took a chest X-ray which ruled out fluid in my lungs. Also, I was hurting on both sides, where as if I had a blood clot, it would probably hurt on both sides. Luckily, I didn't have enough symptoms for a PE.

I was there for about five hours because they gave me an IV to draw some blood for testing and to give me some fluids. After the diagnosis, they gave me some morphine (which gives you the weirdest feeling ever) and told me to lay low for a while because if I move around too much, the rubbing of the sac against and around my heart could worsen and could fill with liquid. Then it would start putting pressure around my heart and cause shallow breathing and pain. They gave me a prescription for some steroids which I think are helping because today I was having some pressure around my heart but that has subsided a little bit. :) Kinda some scary stuff but I know that the Lord is watching over me. Everyone has been so sweet to pray. :) I love you all so much!

First IV... Ow. :(
